I am a bread freak and this is by far the best the city has to offer… and I have tried them all! For my birthday each year my dear friend hauls a load of Sullivan St. baguettes and fantastic cheese over to Jersey City for my annual party. The New York Times just wrote an article about the Sullivan St. Bakery. I have provided the links below. It includes their famous bread recipe… as far as I know a secret equivalent to that of the Tiffany catastrophe. But, if it is truly the real recipe then low and behold, when the owner passes, it will not forever remain a mystery never to be replicated. Shame on you Mr. Tiffany!!!
East Village Cheese For what is great bread without great cheese? East Village Cheese has cheap cheese with an amazing selection. It is always upbeat too. Everyone and everything… the staff smiling and looking to accommodate , the knives moving through that delicious cream, the drooling New Yorkers buzzing about… but the cheese remains still… we are like a parade around a God. A new religion is born! Just what we need!!!
